Abstract: | According to the WHO, appendicitis is defined as inflammation of the cecal appendix that begins with the obstruction of the appendicular lumen, which results in an increase in pressure intraluminal by the accumulation of mucus. WHO (2017) The diagnosis of acute appendicitis is relatively easy since when the symptoms appear classic clinical. The anamnesis, as well as the physical examination constitute the diagnostic modalities more effective and practical. Difficulties lie in recognizing presentations atypical of said pathology. PAHO (2016) In the United States, it is estimated that approximately 70,000 patients are diagnosed with acute appendicitis. annual cases, likewise similar data are presented in Europe. In 2017, they announced in Ecuador 38,532 cases of said pathology, which represented a rate of 22.97 per 10,000 people, being the first cause of morbidity nationwide, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC). Description: | El diagnóstico de apendicitis aguda es relativamente fácil dado que cuando se presenta el cuadro clínico clásico. La anamnesis, así como el examen físico constituyen las modalidades diagnósticas más efectivas y prácticas. Las dificultades se encuentran en el reconocimiento de las presentaciones atípicas de dicha patología. OPS (2016) En estados unidos se estima que se diagnostica de apendicitis aguda proximadamente 70.000 casos anual, así mismos datos similares se presentan en Europa. En el año 2017, se dieron a conocer en Ecuador 38.532 casos de dicha patología, que representó una tasa de 22,97 por cada 10.000 personas, siendo el primer motivo de morbilidad a nivel nacional, según el Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas y Censos (INEC).
