Abstract

The main objective of the project was to evaluate the morphological behavior of forage sorghum (Sorghum vulgare) through observation records to determine its yield, since there is a high deficit of drought-resistant forage grasses in the canton of Chone. The analysis with the observation record showed that forage Sorghum (Sorghum vulgare) can have a good dry matter yield if there is a good agronomic management, good pest control and constant irrigation (although this grass is drought tolerant). For the result of this research, the dry matter yield of cultivated forage sorghum (Sorghum vulgare) presented an average of 3.477 ± 0.685, and the dry matter presented an average of 24.822 ± 0.982, which was a lower percentage than expected, Comparing it also with other results of other investigations, this had a negative effect due to different variables presented in the journey from planting to harvest, the low irrigation was one of the main ones,besides that there was a high incidence of the pest called aphid (Aphididae). This research project describes a research proposal to be developed and serve as a means of dissemination for the knowledge of the different morphological characteristics of forage sorghum, the yield of green biomass and dry matter, so it is proposed to develop a management manual for forage sorghum (Sorghum vulgare).
