| Abstract: | Carious lesions were conventionally managed by completely removing carious tissue and replacing missing dental tissue with a restoration. This behavior is no longer recommended because it is accepted that carious dental tissue does not always need to be removed to stop the progression of the disease. In this context, the use of silver diamine fluoride for caries management has been implemented. The objective of the research was to determine the effectiveness of silver diamine fluoride in caries management. The research is descriptive, with a qualitative approach and a documentary design, following the criteria of systematic reviews. 15 articles published between 2017 and 2022 that included results on the use of silver diamine fluoride in caries management were included for the review. It is indicated for the management of dental caries, to achieve the arrest of a carious lesion, without the need for invasive treatments. It is easy to handle for the professional and for the patient, a short handling time and a treatment that is economical. Its main disadvantage is the dark staining it can cause over time. The mechanism of action of silver diamine fluoride is based on the properties of its components. It combines the antibacterial property of silver and the remineralizing property of fluoride. It is more effective than ART and just as effective as the use of substances such as silver nitrate and sodium fluoride. |
| Description: | Las lesiones cariosas se manejaban convencionalmente eliminando completamente el tejido cariado y sustituyendo el tejido dental faltante con una restauración. Esta conducta ya no se recomienda porque se acepta que el tejido dental cariado no siempre necesita ser removido para detener la progresión de la enfermedad. En este contexto se ha implementado el uso del fluoruro diamino de plata para el manejo de la caries. El objetivo de la investigación fue determinar la efectividad del fluoruro diamino de plata en el manejo de la caries. La investigación es descriptiva, con un enfoque cualitativo y un diseño documental, siguió los criterios de las revisiones sistemáticas. Se incluyeron para la revisión 15 artículos publicados entre los años 2017 y 2022 que incluían resultados sobre el uso del fluoruro diamino de plata en el manejo de la caries. Está indicado para el manejo de la caries dental, para lograr la detención de una lesión cariosa, sin necesidad de realizar tratamientos invasivos. Es de fácil manejo para el profesional y para el paciente, un corto tiempo de manipulación y un tratamiento que es económico. Su principal desventaja es la tinción oscura que puede provocar con el paso del tiempo. El mecanismo de acción del fluoruro diamino de plata es en base a las propiedades de sus componentes. Combina la propiedad antibacteriana de la plata y la propiedad remineralizante del flúor. Resulta más efectivo que la ART e igual de efectivo que el uso de sustancias como el nitrato de plata y el fluoruro de sodio. |
