Calidad de vida asociada a la salud bucal en pacientes pediátricos

Abstract

Oral health has an effect on quality of life. Untreated caries can have significant impacts on quality of life in relation to oral health, well-being of children and their parents in the short and long term. Tooth decay is associated with pain, discomfort, and difficulty sleeping and eating, which affects children's daily performance in school, social activities, and self-esteem. The objective was to determine the factors that can affect the quality of life associated with oral health in pediatric patients. The research had a documentary design and the principles of an exploratory review were applied. A total of eight articles published between 2017 and 2022 were included. The main instruments for measuring health-related quality of life in pediatric patients are the ECOHIS for children under six years of age and the CPQ6-8 and CPQ11-14. According to the results of various investigations, dental pain caused by untreated dental caries is one of the factors that negatively affects the quality of life associated with oral health in pediatric patients.
