Saussure: aplicación en “Como agua para chocolate” para identificar valores y antivalores.

Abstract

This research focuses on the application of Ferdinand de Saussure's linguistic theory to identify values and anti-values in Laura Esquivel's novel "Like Water for Chocolate" in relation to the perception of 20 third-year high school students at high school Pedro Balda CucalÛn. Surveys were used to gather information from the students, as well as interviews with two language and literature teachers. The choice of "Like Water for Chocolate" as the object of study is based on the richness of its symbolic content and the way the author uses language to convey deep meanings. Saussure's linguistic theory, focused on semiotics and semiology, provides a solid theoretical framework for analyzing how linguistic signs and their meanings influence the interpretation of values and anti-values present in the novel. The survey results revealed patterns in the students' interpretation of the values and anti-values present in the work, while the interviews with the teachers provided a broader and more contextualized perspective. The research aims not only to identify these elements in the novel but also to understand how they influence students' perception, thus contributing to literary analysis from a semiotic and linguistic perspective. The findings of this study may have educational implications by highlighting the importance of teaching literature as a means of understanding and reflecting on cultural and social values.
