Estudio de la evolución del centro urbano de Manta: años 1950-2021, propuesta de lineamientos al 2030.

Abstract

The urban center of the city of Manta is the point of concentration and tourist attraction where different activities are carried out, in the city and especially the center has experienced great development, it is essential to know the stages of the evolution of morphological growth and the use of I usually. This development for decades has generated important economic, administrative and recreational activities that produce the commercial ynamism of the center; however, it has caused vehicular and pedestrian traffic problems where travel conditions are not optimal or adequate. The accelerated growth of the city in a diffuse way to the point of generating the conurbation with the cities of Montecristi and Jaramijó, spontaneously brought with it the generation of sub-centralities based on the vocation of the different sectors of the city, to this is also added the local administration with the different programs and projects that they implement and execute with the purpose of bringing services closer to the citizens in the different sectors, especially the peripheries. This, in turn, has generated a loss of confluence and attraction to the urban center, a decrease in centrality functions and, to a certain extent, progressive deterioration. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the evolution of the center, diagnose the current situation through various methods that involve digital tools, manuals and interviews. As a result, guidelines are generated for 2030 within the framework of the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, in search of recovering the attraction and functionality of downtown Manta. It is important to indicate that in the period of completion of this investigation, a public space project was carried out in the center that has allowed the center to recover its attraction, for this reason it has been included in the investigation.
