Análisis rural sostenible: enfoque multidisciplinar en la comuna los bajos del pechiche en el cantón Montecristi.

Abstract

This paper analyzes from the disciplines of sustainable development and rural sociology the development of the Bajos del Pechiche commune in Montecristi canton, a rural settlement far from the cantonal capital. The objective has been to analyze from multiple disciplines the rural development that is taking place in the Bajos del Pechiche commune, in the Montecristi Canton. The research methodology was based on direct observation, surveys and interviews with local agents as significant tools for obtaining primary data. The surveys conducted with 80 people showed that the commune has a deficit of adequate sustainable development, where social migration, lack of equipment and basic infrastructure and planning based on contemporary models of development stand out. It should also be noted that the commune still has traditional rural features, but that the characteristics of the new rurality are beginning to be observed, which implies new challenges that must be addressed for adequate development. In conclusion, the planning and management of a sustainable rural development model by the local authorities together with the participation of the citizens is essential to improve the quality of life and productivity in the commune.
