Abstract: | The objective of this research was to evaluate the biological behavior of free-range chickens at different densities under confined grazing in the humid tropics. One-day-old free-range chickens pío pío were used, applying a completely randomized block design, with 3 treatments and 5 repetitions. To differentiate the separation of the means according to Tukey at a degree of significance of (p<0.05 and p<0.01). Weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion, benefit/cost were evaluated. And different densities of 6, 8 and 10 chickens were used for each treatment with 1 m2 cages, commercial balanced food and ad libitum water were supplied, the weeds present that were found in the grazing area were Yuyo Colorado (Amaranthus quitensis) and Pegador (Bidens pilosa L.). The results obtained indicate that each one treatment had de same significance at weight gain, the highest feed consumption occurred in the T3 of 10 chickens with 15.96 lb. The best feed conversion was the T1 (6 chickens) with a value of 3.14. The relation benefit cost present that the treatments T2 (8 chickens) and T3 (10 chickens) had same values (1) over T1 (6 chickens) with 0.9. Therefore, high densities affect the development and weight gain of the animals. |
