Abstract: In Ecuador, a product diversification strategy has been implemented for years in the production processes, benefiting from a series of agro-productive and commercial policies that wanted to improve the conditions of production, marketing and export of the different agricultural and particularly the non-traditional items that have a wide demand in the export market such as the pitahaya, in this sense, a study was made of the productivity and production of this tropical fruit in three farms in Santo Domingo and Portoviejo, considering production indicators, environmental and social. Therefore, a field and bibliographical investigation was applied, through surveys and observation, obtaining as a result that they carry out from 21 to 23 harvests in Santo Domingo and from 24 to 25 harvests in Portoviejo per year, for which in this last canton it has a greater approximate production of 3750 kg ha-1, being the indicators to make the respective comparisons the organic production; production, productivity, production volume, benefit/cost; in addition to the climate that is the most indicated and the effects on the environment are less in this area where the best results are obtained. It was determined that there is no marked NBI basic needs index, because this agricultural activity (Cultivation of Pitahaya) has allowed the owners of the farms to improve their quality of life allowing them to increase their purchasing power.
