Abstract

This research focuses on the study of the “Initial Age and Prevalence of Drug Use in ULEAM Students, year 2024”. Drug use triggers multiple problems that interfere with the physical, emotional, and social well-being of people, hence the importance of addressing this issue given the worrying trend of early onset of drug use and the increase in its use among the student population. The objectives of this study focus on determining the initial age and prevalence of drug use among Uleam students, identifying the percentage of students who use drugs, establishing the average initial age of drug use, the associated risk factors, and the prevalence of this problem in the student population. A quantitative approach will be used, collecting data through collection techniques and instruments such as surveys and questionnaires, applied to a sample of 359 students from the Faculty of Education, Tourism, Arts and Humanities, and the Faculty of Social Sciences, Law, and Welfare. In addition, an exploratory and descriptive approach will be used, employing deductive and inductive methods to analyze factors such as age of onset and prevalence. The results highlight that the initial age of consumption in the university context is between 22 and 25 years of age, with a prevalence of alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana consumption. It is concluded that there is a notable percentage of students who do not consume or maintain occasional consumption, with the main motivations being recreation, experimentation, and curiosity.
