Abstract

The present research addresses the relevance of the preservation of cultural heritage as a driver for economic and social development in the city of Manta in the year 2023. The main objective of the research was to diagnose the contribution of cultural heritage as a support factor for development local in the Manta canton, the problem identified is the lack of awareness of the importance and value of the city's cultural heritage, which leads to a lack of interest in its preservation and promotion for local development. The methodological approach used was mixed, a type of field research, non-experimental, cross-sectional, with a descriptive scope, added to the analytical-synthetic method, as techniques, surveys and interviews were combined, aimed at the population and the experiences and opinions of key actors, such as local authorities and cultural heritage experts. The main results are that Manta's cultural heritage is recognized as an important asset for economic and social development by 88% in favor, a high level of contribution to the preservation of cultural heritage and a level of knowledge of 96% about these endogenous resources of Manta. The city, however, according to 92% of those surveyed, recognizes the need for investment to improve these infrastructures and promote them appropriately. In conclusion, the cultural heritage of Manta plays a fundamental role for the development of the people of Manta, whether in the economic, social, tourist, cultural and local identity spheres.
