Compelling Reading Skills in English Classes through Guided Discovery Strategy.

Abstract

The purpose ofthis article is to presenta review of how the guided discovery strategy favors the development of reading comprehension ski lis and at the same time allows the acquisition ofvocabulary and the improvement of grammar in the teaching ofEnglish as a foreign language. The methodology used consists of a bibliographic and documentary review of academic texts based on hermeneutic analysis. The results ofthis research allow us to understand that reading comprehension is of interest as a means to develop cognitive ski lis and even helps them to become familiar with different reading styles, besides constituting a meaningful learning process, achieving an independent mastery of their skills, knowledge and abilities when leaming a language. This article concludes that persuasive reading and guided discovery are effective strategies for teaching reading comprehension. Persuasive texts facilitate comprehension, while guided discovery actively engages students in their own leaming, thus improving outcomes.
