In particular, the Ecuadorian shrimp sector was one of the most affected by the conflict. Ecuadorian shrimp exports to Russia and Ukraine represented 15% of total Ecuadorian shrimp exports in 2021. In 2022, shrimp exports to Russia and Ukraine decreased by 12.8% and 73%, respectively, compared to 2021. This impact is due to a number of factors, including: Economic sanctions imposed on Russia by the international community have made it difficult to conduct business with that country. the conflict has caused economic and financial instability in Russia, which has reduced demand for imported products and logistical difficulties in transporting goods to Russia have increased export costs.
