Abstract

This project focuses on the importance of navigation lights, which we will apply to the vessel “El Rey” located in Jaramijó, belonging to the secular University Eloy Alfaro of Manabí. The implementation of this system is efficient and easy to handle, allowing the technical staff on board to operate and facilitates preventive and corrective maintenance if necessary. Navigation lights help to have better visibility, to prevent collisions since they allow ships to identify each other at a distance. This is seen in the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS), in its section D, which discusses acoustic and light signals, and this is especially at night and in conditions of low visibility. This system is considered one of the most indispensable for maritime safety on a vessel. The resistance of this system to its saline environment is debated, and it is proposed to mount and install these navigation lights on the ship following proper procedures for their implementation. Finally, the rules, types of lights, and maneuvers to avoid collision are mentioned, emphasizing that any maneuver to be carried out to avoid a collision will be conducted according to the regulations, carried out clearly and with due anticipation, always respecting the circumstances and conditions of the moment.
