Abstract: Introduction: The maelstrom of changes that have occurred during the last century, has resulted with higher incidence and prevalence of chronic diseases such as Arterial Hypertension mainly in the elderly population and complications occur more frequently, they are a common denominator in these patients much more when they do not have the necessary care. Objective: To characterize the role of nursing in the elderly with complications of arterial hypertension. Methodology: Descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study with a qualitative modality that will allow obtaining relevant data with greater importance on the subject. Analysis and Interpretation: 87 papers constituted the documentary population of this research, of which 24% were obtained from the Scielo database, 9% from Cochrane, 29% from Scholar Google, 4% from Redalyc, 14% from various academic repositories, 8% from the Revista Panamericana de Salud and finally 12% from Dialnet. Results: 63% of older adults with a diagnosis of arterial hypertension present complications, 58% do not receive adequate care, 84% of patients do not have good adherence to treatment, 75% of patients present cardiac complications, 50% of patients suffer from renal complications and 48% present neurological complications. Conclusions: The theoretical foundations of the nursing role in the older adult with complications of arterial hypertension were characterized, which allows us to conclude that the role of nursing is essential and multifaceted, studies highlight the importance of health education, continuous follow-up, and early intervention in the control of this chronic disease.
Description: La vorágine de cambios que se han dado durante el último siglo, ha resultado con mayor incidencia y prevalencia de enfermedades crónicas como la Hipertensión arterial principalmente en la población de edad avanzada y las complicaciones se presentan con más frecuencia, son un común denominador en estos pacientes mucho más cuando no tienen los cuidados necesarios.
