Abstract: In acute respiratory infections of the lower respiratory tract, pneumonia has a significant prevalence due to its severity and high mortality, the cost of resources caused, the epidemiological changes of the causal microorganisms and the increase in bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents; by what pneumonia is defined such as inflammatory lung damage in response to the entry of said microorganisms into the distal airways and parenchyma. Pneumonia is the single largest cause of childhood mortality worldwide. This disease caused the death of 740,180 children under 5 years of age in 2019, which accounts for 14% of all deaths in children under 5 years of age worldwide and 22% of all deaths of children aged 1 to 5 years. (WHO, 2022) In Ecuador, the surveillance modality for this disease is grouped. In the year In 2020 until EW 53, 89,338 cases of pneumonia have been reported. For the year 2021 until In EW 7, 9,340 cases have been reported, showing a decrease of 60.13% in relation to the previous year. The most affected age group is 65 years and older, followed for the 20 to 49 year old group and the 50 to 64 year old group. (MSP, 2021).
