Abstract

This study analyzes the labor and health rights of sex workers in Jaramijó. An exhaustive investigation was con- ducted, using qualitative, inductive and deductive approaches, and field research was carried out. Legal herme- neutics was applied to understand the legal framework and its practical application. Interviews were conducted to understand the experiences and needs of sex workers in relation to their labor and health rights. Preliminary findings reveal a scant labor regulation for sex work. Although a mandatory health check is required to practi- ce, many workers are unaware of the existence of educational and health programs to prevent diseases. In the Ecuadorian legal framework, the regulation of this activity is only evidenced in two cantons, regulating the places where it takes place. This study highlights the lack of labor regulation for sex workers and the need for educational and health programs to protect their well-being.
