Abstract: | With the objective of evaluating the supplementation of Californian red worm (Eisenia foetida) on productive parameters in free-range chickens, a study was conducted with 96 chickens distributed into four treatments with four repetitions each: T1 (75% feed, 25% worm), T2 (50% feed, 50% worm), T3 (25% feed, 75% worm), and T4 (100% feed). Each treatment included 24 chickens distributed over 4 m², with a density of 6 chickens/m². A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used for data analysis, modeled with Generalized Linear Mixed Models (GLMM) using InfoStat version 2020 and the R program. The inclusion of 50% Californian red worm in the diet significantly improved productive parameters, with an initial weight of 248.73 g and a final weight of 3,593.01 g, resulting in a weight gain of 3,344.28 g and a feed conversion ratio of 2.20. These results demonstrate the efficacy of Californian red worm in enhancing the productive parameters of free-range hickens. However, the benefit/cost ratio was higher in the control group (1.38) compared to the 50/50 treatment (1.03), suggesting that while worm inclusion improves productive parameters and revenues, the control group offers a better cost benefit ratio. The supplementation of Californian red worm (Eisenia foetida) in the diet of free range chickens significantly improves productive parameters, achieving greater weight gains and better feed conversion. |
