Abstract: In the canton of El Carmen in the province of Manabí, there is a great diversity of agricultural production in which resources that can be used for livestock at a lower cost are obtained, therefore, in this work we will evaluate the effect of cocoa meal (Theobroma cacao) as a feed supplement in mestizo steers over a period of three months, The aim of this research project is to take advantage of this raw material, which many producers consider as waste, and to provide an alternative feed for cattle breeders. For the following work, a Randomized Complete Block Design was used with three treatments (T1 1kg of cocoa meal per day), (T2 2kg of cocoa meal per day), (T3 2kg of cocoa meal per day) and (T4 2kg of cocoa meal per day). day), (T2 2kg of cocoa meal. day) and (T0 0kg of cocoa meal. day) with six replications and the results processed in the infostat program, having as variables to measure daily weight gain (DWG) and total weight gain (TWG), obtaining non significant data in all variables, the highest treatment was T2 0,88 kg of daily weight gain, T0 with T1 0,87 kg of daily weight gain. T2 obtained the highest total weight gain which was 78,86 kg and T1 as the treatment with the lowest total weight gain which was 78,22 kg.
Description: En el cantón El Carmen de la provincia de Manabí, se halla una gran diversidad de producción agrícola en la que se obtienen recursos que se pueden utilizar para la ganadería a un menor costo, por esto, en el presente trabajo se va a evaluar el efecto de la harina de cacao (Theobroma cacao) como suplemento alimenticio en novillos mestizos en un transcurso de tres meses, utilizando la cáscara para dicho proceso, lo que se busca en este proyecto investigativo, es aprovechar esta materia prima, que muchos productores lo consideran como un desecho y darles una alternativa de alimentación a los ganaderos.
