Abstract

The study that was carried out was based on a systematic review of the scientific literature on the role of occupational therapy in retired older adults in which the main objective was to analyze the impact of the change of roles in retired older adults on social participation. , from an occupational therapy perspective. The present study is descriptive, with a qualitative approach and cross-sectional design using indirect observation for the collection of data from which the results found revealed the existence of different methods used in the practice of occupational therapy in this context, it was evident that The roles do change when they retire since their main role is to get up every morning to work, gave an example of the benefits of activities that promote the acquisition of skills and motivation in the process in a social way since they face significant social isolation , which leads them to suffer from loneliness, depression and emotional deterioration due to lack of participation in social and community activities, occupational therapy intervention plays a very important role as it facilitates the adaptation of retired older adults to their new roles, through interventions , creation of personalized or group strategies since this leads to giving them autonomy, active participation, gives them emotional well-being and a better quality of life, occupational therapy leaves traces and contributes significantly to the acceptance of the identity and purpose of retirees.
