Abstract: | The present research work was carried out in the Chiquimble sector located in the Pedernales-vía Jama canton, province of Manabí, the objective was to evaluate the effect of cocoa slime or mucilage (Theobroma cacao L.) as a natural herbicide in control of different species of weeds, in addition, the effect of phytotoxicity after application on the different species of weeds was determined by supplying different dosages of mucilage or cocoa slime. In addition to this, an economic analysis of the treatments under study was carried out in order to establish the cost/benefit relationship. A DBCA (Completely Randomized Block Design) was used with 3 repetitions and 8 treatments, T1 and T2 being 100% pure cocoa mucilage, T3 and T4 50% mucilage + 50% water, T5 and T6 cocoa mucilage + Biol in correspondence of 50%-100%, T7 and T8 cocoa mucilage + Biol in correspondence of 50%-50%. 24 plots were established, the variables under study were: Damage assessment by genus and species, damage assessment by percentage (effect) and damage record by observation. After each application of the treatments, it was found that the treatment that gave the best results was 50% mucilage. The most profitable treatment to apply according to the economic analysis carried out were treatments T1, T2, T3 and T4 with a cost of $491.44 USD, with a dosage of 1L./2.25 m2. |
