Abstract: The study evaluated the feasibility of replacing Artemia sp with Rotifers sp in the diet of white shrimp larvae (Litopenaeus vannamei) in Pedernales, Ecuador, during 2024. Under controlled conditions at the Reymar laboratory, growth, survival, and production costs were analyzed for two treatments. The results showed that the Artemia sp treatment achieved a higher average growth (3.0570 mm) compared to Rotifers sp (2.9980 mm), with a significant difference of 0.059 mm. However, Rotifers sp presented lower production costs ($72.43 USD, compared to $98.43 USD for Artemia sp), albeit with higher mortality rates. Statistical analysis (ANOVA and Tukey’s test) confirmed the superiority of Artemia sp in terms of consistent growth and survival outcomes, highlighting its nutritional effectiveness during larval stages. Although Rotifers sp offers economic benefits, it is not suitable as a complete replacement due to its negative impact on larval survival. This study concludes that while partial substitution could be considered under specific economic scenarios, Artemia sp remains the best option to optimize quality and productivity in shrimp larval rearing in Ecuador.
