Abstract: The present study analyzes the factors that have influenced the low traffic of containerized cargo in the Port of Manta, a problem that has reduced its participation in Ecuadorian foreign trade. Through a qualitative and descriptive approach, a documentary review was carried out and surveys and interviews were applied to experts in the port sector to identify the main causes of this problem. The results show that the lack of efficient road connectivity, the absence of new shipping lines, high operational costs and limitations in infrastructure and productivity have been the main obstacles to the growth of the port. It is highlighted that the imbalance between imports and exports, added to the scarcity of incentives to attract logistics operators, has generated a vicious circle that prevents the consolidation of the Port of Manta as a strategic point for maritime trade. Given these findings, strategies are proposed aimed at improving port infrastructure, optimizing operational efficiency, reducing logistics costs and strengthening land connectivity with the hinterland. The establishment of strategic alliances with shipping companies is also recommended to increase the offer of services and diversify the use of the port. The investigation concludes that, although the Port of Manta has strategic potential, it is essential to implement comprehensive measures that allow it to compete with other terminals in the region and recover its importance in containerized cargo traffic.
