Abstract: This research analyzes the challenges and opportunities faced by family-owned small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Manabí, Ecuador, within the framework of the trade pact between Ecuador and the European Union. Despite the benefits of this agreement, many SMEs fail to fully benefit from it due to the lack of training and adaptation to European standards, including quality regulations and certifications. The study adopts a qualitative methodology, examining secondary data to detect the obstacles present and suggest tactics to enhance the competitiveness of these companies in the European market. The findings highlight the relevance of support and training programs to enhance the performance of SMEs in meeting the demands of the trade agreement.
