Abstract: This research work on the use of Incoterms 2020 in internat ional purchase and sales contracts in the Ecuadorian case was projected based on the problem based on the lack of understanding of those terms, proposing the objectives framed in how to avoid errors and confusions that can affect commercial operations between Ecuador and the different countries with which it establishes international relat ions. The results obtained show that the lack of understanding about Incoterms is negat ive for companies due to the fact that the terms are misapplied or there is confusion between similar terms, thus obtaining additional costs, unnecessary expenses, delays in the shipment of the goods. It is proposed that companies train their collaborators in foreign trade through talks, workshops, as well as the creation of pract ical guides for greater knowledge.
