Abstract

In Ecuador, fair trade has gained relevance, especially since its inclusion in the 2008 Constitution, which establishes the State's obligation to promote this model to guarantee access to quality goods and services and promote sustainability. However, SMEs face barriers such as lack of knowledge about fair trade standards and certifications, additional costs to implement them, and the belief that these practices can affect their profitability. The 2030 Agenda offers an ideal framework for SMEs to work on inclusive and sustainable economic development. By embracing fair trade, companies can contribute to meeting the SDGs, promote a fairer trading environment and improve their competitiveness. Training, collaboration with support networks and the integration of sustainable practices are key to overcoming these challenges.
