Abstract: The influence of common impurities in concrete, known as deleterious materials, such as clays, silts, organic matter, and salts, on the compressive strength of concrete made with aggregates containing these impurities has given rise to this research. Regarding concrete strength in terms of durability and structural safety, a critical issue arises: the loss of concrete quality due to deleterious materials present in aggregates. In this experimental study, different samples of aggregates containing these impurities—0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%, respectively—were prepared to understand how these impurities reduce the bond between the cement, the aggregates, and the hydration of the cement. The samples were subjected to compressive strength tests at 7, 14, and 28 days according to the international testing methods ASTM C39/C39M and ASTM C33, describing a process to obtain clear and detailed knowledge about the development of the mechanical strength of the concrete. The results obtained indicate that there is a relationship between the amount of harmful materials and the reduction in compressive strength; higher proportions of harmful content significantly reduce the strength. This research also provides a methodology that will serve as a basis for future studies and offers guidance to the construction industry on the management and improvement of aggregate quality.
