Abstract: | The study "Checking the strength and adhesion of mortar by adding the chitosan additive in construction work" aimed to evaluate the impact of chitosan, a biopolymer derived from shrimp shells, on the mechanical properties of the mortar. Mortar, a mixture of sand, water and cement, is a construction material adaptable to various uses thanks to its specific properties. To ensure its effectiveness and optimal performance, both in production and application, strict quality control is crucial. This material is key in construction, whether as a binder, coating or in masonry in general. Given the need for more sustainable and high-performance construction materials, it was hypothesized that chitosan could improve the strength and adhesion of the mortar. An experimental methodology was used, where mortar samples were prepared with different dosages of chitosan (0.50%, 0.75% and 1%) and compared with a traditional mortar without additives. The results revealed a significant increase in the compressive strength of the mortar with chitosan at all test times (7, 14 and 28 days), with the 1% dosage being the most effective. |
