Abstract

This study on Anadara tuberculosa, known as concha prieta, aimed to identify the food particles in its digestive system through microscopic observations. 45 samples sold at the Playita Mia Seafood Market, in Manta, were collected, which were subjected to morphometric evaluations and the extraction of gastric fluids. The results revealed a high prevalence of Guinardia spp., in the diet and showed a positive correlation between height and shell thickness, indicating that larger individuals would have greater height. The investigation also detected the capture of specimens below the minimum legal size, underlining the need for better implementation of fishing regulations. This study provides essential data for the sustainable management of the black conch and the protection of mangroves, highlighting the importance of continuing research that delves into its ecology and feeding habits.
