Abstract: | This study focuses on the assessment of the water quality of the Portoviejo River, a crucial water resource for the province of Manabí. A multidisciplinary approach was applied to evaluate various physicochemical and microbiological variables. In addition, the water quality index (WQI) was calculated to provide a comprehensive perspective on the state of the water resource. Sampling was carried out at five specific locations: near the Poza Honda dam, La Lucha beach resort, Puente Colón, Las Palmas beach resort in Puerto Loor, and at the river mouth. The parameters analyzed included fecal coliforms, pH, BOD5, COD, nitrates, phosphates, temperature, turbidity, total dissolved solids, and dissolved oxygen. These analyses were performed in a certified laboratory, resulting in significant fluctuations in these parameters, influenced by seasonal factors and human activity. |
