Abstract: Plantain (Musa AAB) cultivation is positioned as one of the main agricultural products in Ecuador, with the province of Manabí, and specifically the canton of El Carmen, standing out as the region with the highest production. This study aimed to evaluate the response of plantain crops to disinfection by thermal shock during the nursery stage. To do so, a completely randomized block design (CRBD) was used with five treatments and four repetitions. The treatments consisted of the application of thermal shock with exposure times of 4, 6, 8 and 10 seconds per plant, in addition to a control treatment without disinfection. The results showed that the shortest sprouting time was observed in the treatment with 6 seconds of exposure (T2), reaching an average of 16.75 days. In terms of height, no significant differences were detected between the treatments. However, the 6- second treatment stood out for emitting a greater number of leaves, with an average of 5.44, and an average pseudostem perimeter of 12.75 cm. The 8-second treatment (T3) had the highest number of roots, with an average of 22.25, and the highest root weight, with 64 g. The highest root length again corresponded to the 6-second treatment, with an average of 55.25 cm.
Description: El cultivo de plátano (Musa AAB) se posiciona como uno de los principales productos agrícolas en Ecuador, destacándose la provincia de Manabí, y específicamente en el cantón El Carmen, como la región con mayor producción. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar la respuesta del cultivo de plátano a la desinfección mediante choque térmico durante la etapa de vivero.
