Abstract

The study evaluated ovarian function and reproductive response of Zebu cows to the Traditional and J-Synch estrus synchronization protocols in the Canuto parish, Chone canton. It was found that the presence of two follicles is associated with higher pregnancy rates, whereas conception is significantly lower with three follicles. The J-Synch protocol showed greater effectiveness, achieving a pregnancy rate of 60% compared to 50% with the Traditional protocol, and allowed conception even in the absence of estrus. Cycles with two follicular waves were associated with better reproductive outcomes. These findings highlight the importance of selecting protocols tailored to local conditions, with J-Synch being a promising alternative to optimize reproduction in tropical livestock systems.
