Estereotipación y estigmatización de la mujer en la política.

Abstract

The essay addresses the challenges women face in politics due to the stereotyping and stigmatization of women, examining how these phenomena affect their participation and representation. Drawing on theoretical frameworks such as the glass ceiling, the penalty for deviating from women’s roles, the social construction of gender, and intersectionality, it explores the impact of sociocultural barriers on the perception and performance of women leaders. It also analyzes the crucial role of inclusive public policies and the media in transforming narratives. The text concludes with examples of stereotyping, stigmatization, and barriers in regional politics, focusing on the cases of Claudia López in Colombia and, from the Ecuadorian context, Verónica Abad, which highlight the structural resistance and barriers women face when participating in politics.
