Abstract: This study examines the prevalence of gingivitis among patients attending the Odontological Clinic III at the Dentistry Program of the Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro de Manabí (ULEAM) during the 2023-2 period. Gingivitis, a reversible inflammatory gum disease primarily caused by bacterial plaque accumulation, affects a significant portion of the global population. The research focused on determining the prevalence of the disease across different demographic groups, considering factors such as age, gender, residence, and nationality of the patients. The findings revealed a significant variation in the prevalence of gingivitis among different age groups, with a higher incidence in young adults. Inadequate oral hygiene practices were identified as a crucial factor in the development of the disease. The study emphasizes the importance of oral hygiene education and the need for community interventions to reduce the burden of gingivitis in the population. The lack of prior local studies highlights the relevance of this report in designing effective prevention and treatment strategies tailored to the specific characteristics of the community served by the clinic. The findings suggest that better education on oral hygiene practices and promoting regular dental visits are essential to prevent the progression of gingivitis to more severe forms of periodontal disease.
