Índice de higiene oral simplificado IHOS en los pacientes que acudieron a la clínica odontológica III en la Carrera de Odontología de la Uleam.

Abstract

Biofilm is identified as the primary risk factor for the development of oral infections such as caries and periodontal disease. The aim of the study was to determine the level of simplified oral hygiene IHOS in patients who attended the Dental Clinic III i n the ULEAM dentistry course period 2023-2. An observational, cross-sectional study was carried out with a sample of 273 patients who attended the Dental Clinic III in the ULEAM Dentistry Course period 2023-2. There was a majority of female patients (60.1%) and of Ecuadorian nationality (93.4%). The prevalence of conditions related to IHOS was 86.1%. The IHOS value was 1.40 distributed in 0.92 for the plaque component and 0.48 for the calculus component. The prevalence of gingivitis was 33.7%. According to the gender of the patients, among those with an excellent IHOS, 68.4% were female and 31.6% were male. Among the patients with a good IHOS, 62.7% were female. On the contrary, among those with an IHOS in the poor category, the proportion was 54.5% for males compared to 45.5% for females.
