Abstract: | Malocclusions can cause many alterations in oral functions, such as mastication, swallowing and speech, as well as psychosocial problems. The most widely used and accepted classification of malocclusions is Angle's. The objective was to characterize malocclusions according to Angle's classification in patients who attended the Dental Clinic III in the ULEAM Dentistry Degree, period 2023-2. The study was descriptive with an observational, cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 203 patients examined at the Dental Clinic III of the ULEAM Dentistry Degree during the period 2023-2. According to Angle's classification, the malocclusion with the highest prevalence was class I with 80.8%, followed by class II with 14.8%, while class III obtained 4.4%. Most patients were female (60.1%), Ecuadorian (95.1%) and from Manta canton (82.8%). There was a higher proportion in the age group of 25 years or younger with 45.3% and in the Manta parish with 38.9%. When considering the sociodemographic variables to classify the prevalence of malocclusions, it is concluded that the general proportions are maintained when analyzing each variable individually. |
