Abstract

This thesis analyzes the expansion of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Ecuador as a fundamental strategy to strengthen maritime sovereignty and guarantee the protection, conservation and sustainable exploitation of its marine resources, which, within a context of growing global challenges, such as illegal fishing, climate change and the overexploitation of resources, a comprehensive framework will be proposed that combines these legal, technological, economic and environmental aspects. The work highlights the importance of the EEZ as a strategic area of 200 nautical miles where Ecuador exercises sovereign rights, regulated by national regulations such as the Constitution and the Fisheries Law, and international regulations such as the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (CONVEMAR). In this way, the need to implement advanced technologies, such as satellites and drones, is addressed to improve surveillance and control illicit activities, as it presents a multidimensional approach that integrates technology, international cooperation and environmental sustainability, offering concrete solutions to maximize the potential of Ecuador's EEZ as an engine of economic development and guarantee of maritime sovereignty.
