Abstract

The research titled "Extended Alimony: A Comparative Analysis of Age Limits and Special Circumstances" addresses the issue of alimony in Ecuador, focusing on current legal limitations and the circumstances that justify its extension beyond the age of 18. Through a critical analysis, it identifies that the existing regulatory framework is rigid and inadequately considers the diverse socioeconomic realities that may affect beneficiaries. The research proposes a review of traditional criteria, suggesting that the obligation of alimony should be understood as a broader social commitment that recognizes situations of vulnerability, such as university students or individuals with temporary disabilities. A comparative analysis was conducted with other legal systems in Latin America, highlighting best practices and proposing legislative reforms that ensure more effective protection of alimony rights, especially for those in situations of economic dependency.
