Abstract

This research work is aimed at establishing the foundations for the regulation of civil marriage in a notary public's office. In our country there is a great demand of procedures that are carried out daily in the Civil Registry, which makes it difficult to celebrate a marriage and other procedures in a considerable time. The purpose of this work is to expand the attributions that the Ecuadorian Notary Public has in order to grant, through a reform, the power and capacity to celebrate civil marriages, benefiting couples who wish to get married and that the user does not have delays and obstacles caused by the lengthy procedures in the Civil Registry. In this research, the objective is to propose the celebration of civil marriages before the Notary Public in Ecuador, comparing Ecuadorian regulations with international legislation in Spain and Colombia and demonstrating the advantages of celebrating civil marriages before the Ecuadorian Notary Public.
