Abstract: Gender-based violence constitutes a structural problem deeply rooted in a system of patriarchal domination, the consequences of which severely affect the lives of women and their communities. Given this reality, it is essential to analyze this phenomenon from a local and institutional perspective. Within this framework, the present study was developed, whose main objective is to determine the impact of gender-based violence and the dynamics of dependency on women sheltered at the Women's Home. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach, which allowed for a deeper, more critical, and reflective understanding of the problem. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with women receiving support at this institution. The findings show that a significant proportion of the participants experience strong emotional, economic, and social dependency on their abusers, which makes it difficult to break the cycle of violence, even in shelter settings. Furthermore, it was identified that these dynamics have a negative impact not only on the victims but also on the institutional capacity to provide sustainable responses. It is concluded that gender-based violence, along with dependency in its various forms, represents a critical obstacle to the recovery and autonomy of the women in shelters. This situation demands comprehensive interventions that address both the harm suffered and the factors that perpetuate these women's vulnerability, in order to guarantee processes that restore their rights and strengthen their life plans.
