Abstract: This research work analyzes truancy and is identified as the repeated and prolonged unjustified absences by a minor in the compulsory student stage who is legally enrolled in an academic institution, this problem is experienced in all educational institutions, which was confirmed through the different interviews that were conducted with several of the professionals who work in the DECE, with the objective of knowing the main causes of truancy in educational institutions in the Manta Canton; identifying several causes, since it is recognized that it is a multi-causal social problem and that it will vary depending on the context and reality of each student, due to the different psychosocial risk factors to which the minor is exposed and that can lead to significant consequences for the student at an emotional, psychological, cognitive and social level. Therefore, the role of the social worker in preventing this phenomenon is highly relevant, as their knowledge will allow them to intervene in the most personalized and direct way with the parties involved, using tools, techniques, and implementing actions that help minimize this phenomenon, such as truancy.
Description: El presente trabajo investigativo analiza al absentismo escolar y se identifica como las inasistencias injustificadas de manera reiterada y prolongada por un menor en etapa estudiantil obligada que se encuentra legalmente matriculado en una institución académica, esta problemática se vivencia en todas las instituciones educativas, lo cual se constató mediante las diferentes entrevistas que se realizaron a varios de los profesionales que se desempeñan en el DECE.
