Abstract

Over the years, literature has been a form of escape, a form of oral and written expression; it has been essential for acquiring and sharing knowledge; likewise, it has become a tool for social denunciation, for speaking out against the uncomfortable truths that occur in society. This research conducted a literary analysis of Alicia Yánez Cossío's work La Casa del sano placer (1989), focusing specifically on the role of women within the narrative and symbolic context of the novel's plot. Using a qualitative approach, the authors sought to understand the feminine image, prostitution, the power of the church, patriarchy, and the social, moral, and cultural realities of contemporary society. The study consisted of several methodologies: hermeneutic, semiotic, exegetical, phenomenological, bibliographic, semantic, and analytical- synthetic methods. Furthermore, the research was presented based on the triangulation of sources: analysis of the novel, a focus group, and questions based on the issues within the work. This allowed for the collection of different views and perspectives through interviews with specialists from different disciplines: a sociologist, an anthropologist, a priest, a journalist, a writer, and a lawyer, who, from their professional backgrounds related to the thematic focus of the research, contributed significantly to the study. A bank of questions was prepared for each professional profile, and the information was organized into a double-entry matrix. This allowed for the identification of some important findings, among which the way women are perceived from different perspectives stands out: feminist, religious, social, moralistic, and legal. This gave rise to a complex and nuanced analysis of their role in society. In addition, the research involved the participation of expert and collective voices, who contributed different perspectives and enriched the literary interpretation, bridging the gap between what the fiction proposes and what occurs in current reality.
