Abstract: | This case study investigated the role of emotional intelligence in business leadership within the Accounting and Administrative Department of Cardiocentro Cía. Ltda., in Manta, during the year 2024. The overall objective was to identify the role emotional intelligence played in the director's leadership in order to understand its impact on management and propose improvements. To answer the research questions, a qualitative methodology was used with a descriptive, non-experimental case study design. Data collection was carried out through semi-structured interviews, using an instrument, a script of controlled questions, and guided by the dimensions of (Goleman, 2019), (Alzina, 2003), (Castro, 2020), (Martín, 2015), (Salazar, 2025), (Mamani, 2025), and (Judge, 2015): applied to both the leader and the five employees of the department. Conclusions were drawn from self-perception, the team perspective, and the researcher's opinion through data triangulation. On the one hand, the results demonstrated a marked discrepancy between the leader's interpersonal skills and motivation and self-regulation control. The leader demonstrated self-control and serenity, but the staff reported that he lacked these skills and lacked empathy. It was concluded that the director's influence on leadership was severely limited by these deficiencies in self-regulation and empathy, creating a functional but uninspiring environment and validating the need to propose focused strategies to transform his leadership into a cohesive and effective one. |
