Abstract: Irrigation is crucial during the nursery phase of forest species, as it directly affects seedling establishment and quality. This study assessed the impact of two irrigation regimes daily scheduling versus no scheduled irrigation on the morphological development and post transplant survival of Schizolobium parahyba seedlings. Seedling height, stem collar diameter and leaf number were measured at 15, 30 and 45 days, and survival was recorded after transplanting. Data were analysed using Student’s t test for independent samples, with Welch’s correction applied when variances were unequal. At 15 days, daily irrigation increased height by 41 % (10.98 cm vs 7.79 cm; p < 0.0001). By 30 days, height was 30 % greater (17.64 cm vs 13.60 cm; p < 0.0001), collar diameter was 39 % larger (3.71 mm vs 2.67 mm; p < 0.0001) and leaf number rose by 15 % (7.8 vs 6.8 leaves; p = 0.0052). At 45 days, height was 19 % higher (32.93 cm vs 27.66 cm; p < 0.0001), diameter 30 % greater (4.69 mm vs 3.60 mm; p < 0.0001) and leaf emission 23 % additional (17.21 vs 13.93 leaves; p < 0.0001). Post transplant survival improved by 12.2 percentage points under daily irrigation (88.5 % vs 76.3 %; p < 0.0001). It is concluded that daily irrigation optimises morphological vigour and enhances transplant survival of S. parahyba seedlings, and is therefore recommended for maximising nursery performance and field adaptation.
