Abstract: The objective of this study was to assess the environmental risk of the drug cephalexin using the Danio rerio species as a bioindicator. Juvenile zebrafish were used in an unforced exposure assay. The assay was conducted in a multi-compartment system with seven compartments. A linear contamination gradient was created with six concentrations (50, 100, 200, 400, 600, and 800 mg/L of cephalexin) plus a control. The treatments and the control were tested in triplicate. These treatments were placed individually in a compartment of the system. Once the linear contamination gradient was prepared, three organisms were introduced into each compartment, for a total of 21 organisms per system and 63 organisms per test. The experiments were conducted in complete darkness.
