This research is quantitative, since we will use data analysis and surveys with open questions and the scope of this project is descriptive because it seeks to detail the properties, characteristics and profiles of groups, communities, processes, among others that access an analysis. The population included the companies of the city of Manta, the information obtained was from direct sources with the tools that we used, which were the surveys that were approved by those in charge of supervising this investigation. Using the aforementioned methods such as the survey, we sought to reveal whether paternalism is actually considered a factor of failure in family businesses and the results obtained specified that it is, and that we have a correct administration within succession planning. we will lead the organization to success. Opinions of authors were also taken into account to better understand the background on what paternalism is in family businesses such as: Calva and Davis who contributed knowledge for this research and clearly understand the issues addressed such as family businesses and paternalism.
