Abstract

Artisanal fishing is an important economic activity in Ecuador, and in particular in the city of Manta, being an activity rooted in the identity and livelihood of numerous coastal communities. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the development of commercial alternatives to increase exports of products derived from artisanal fishing in Manta. Throughout the period 2018-2022, this industry has faced various challenges and opportunities in a constantly changing global context. The growing awareness of the need for sustainable fishing practices, the evolution of international market demands and geopolitical events have influenced the commercial conditions of products derived from artisanal fishing. However, exports of products derived from artisanal fishing in Manta have experienced moderate growth in recent years.
