Abstract

The year 2020 was a year of great impact for humanity due to the coronavirus pandemic. COVID-19. The spread of the virus had a negative effect on the economy world, society and the well-being of people around the world. The pandemic affected economic activities, decreasing consumption and causing an increase in unemployment and poverty. The COVID-19 pandemic had a great impact on Ecuador's GVA, which was It contracted 8.5% in 2020, the largest in the last 20 years. This was due to the decrease in domestic demand and international trade, the reduction of production of goods and services, the closure of companies, employment, income and credit contraction. Furthermore, the pandemic also had a strong impact on the unemployment, increasing from 4.2% in 2019 to 5.2% in 2021. The tourism sector also suffered a large 51.6% reduction in income and a reduction in employment from 6.13% to 5.99%. These factors deeply affected the majority of households Ecuadorians, causing an increase in poverty and social inequality. Due to the economic importance of the province of Manabí, a documentary research with the purpose of establishing the impact economic caused by the pandemic in this province.
