Propuesta de un modelo basado en la metodología lean para la optimización de la gestión de desperdicios en proyectos de construcción en el cantón Manta.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a Lean-based model to optimize waste management in construction projects in the Manta canton. In recent years, the construction sector in this region has experienced significant growth, highlighting challenges in waste management that negatively impact the sustainability, efficiency, and costs of projects. Currently, traditional practices result in material, economic, and time losses, emphasizing the need for a more efficient approach. The Lean Construction methodology, derived from Lean Manufacturing, offers tools and principles designed to minimize non-value-adding activities, reduce waste, and optimize resources. This study adopts a qualitative and inductive approach to analyze current practices in Manta, identify areas for improvement, and design a model tailored to local conditions. The proposal focuses on maximizing client-perceived value and enhancing collaboration among stakeholders involved in projects. As a result, a flexible model is proposed, integrating Lean tools such as the Last Planner System, Value Stream Mapping, and client value-oriented design. This model enables construction companies to optimize processes, reduce costs, and foster sustainability, aligning with principles of continuous improvement and operational efficiency. The findings suggest that implementing this model is feasible and presents an opportunity to transform project management in the Manta canton, contributing to the sustainable development of the sector.
