The purpose of this document was to evaluate the effectiveness of the International Caries Detection and Evaluation System (ICDAS) in determining the treatment of dental caries in temporary molars in children, in order to improve the diagnostic accuracy and the effectiveness of the treatment. Through a systematic review of twenty scientific articles, the application of the ICDAS was analyzed, a system that classifies the severity of caries in several stages, allowing a more precise and early intervention. The findings revealed that ICDAS facilitates the early and accurate detection of carious lesions, which is fundamental for planning less invasive and more effective treatments, crucial for children’s dental health. However, significant challenges were identified in the implementation of the system in daily practice, including the lack of adequate training among pediatric dentists, which can lead to inconsistent diagnoses and suboptimal treatments. The importance of standardization in ICDAS training to overcome these obstacles and ensure that its benefits are fully exploited was also discussed. Standardization would make it possible to improve the consistency in diagnoses and treatments at a global level, facilitating the carrying out of comparative studies that evaluate the effectiveness of different treatments for caries. It is concluded in this way that the adoption of ICDAS promises to improve dental health outcomes in children through more accurate detection and treatment of caries in temporary molars, thus supporting a more conservative and oriented approach to the preservation of healthy dental tissue.es
